When I began singing at St. Paul's Cathedral in 2003 I developed a huge interest in classical sacred choral music, particularly in Latin. It was at this time, not long after the performance of Madrigal de Volata, that I decided to take a stab at the genre myself.
Due to the success of my first work, I was asked again to compose a vocal piece for the Chamber Ensemble at my high school, which I was now also a member of. After discussing ideas with the director, Anne Whattoff, we decided on the Veni Creator Spiritus text as a base for the composition.
After doing some research, I decided on using the doxology of an older text for the hymn, one which is pretty much never used nowadays. It appealed to me more because it was uncommon, and really gave that ancient vibe I'm so fond of.

When it was originally performed in concert, I was able to direct the piece, which was quite rewarding and a definite first for me. Later on, a quick recording was made with a small group of performers at St. Paul's.
