One day in early 2005, my father overheard a co-worker talking about The 48 Hour Film Project. Apparently her team needed music for the film they were submitting that year, and before I knew it I was getting a call from the director, Robin Rigby.
Since the film was in production right up to the deadline, I never had an opportunity to see any of the film before scoring it, and had to follow my instincts with Robin's instructions of "Spanish" and "Romantic".
There was only need for two of the four music cues I wrote, and to my great surprise they both seemed to fit the film quite well.
The films were screened at the La Jolla Village Cinemas at the end of the competition, and seeing a film with my music in it on the big screen for the first time was pretty cool.
Additionally,
Robin was the first director I had worked that I didn't know personally before-hand, and despite my lack of knowledge in the romantic film genre, it was enjoyable to score.
“It's hard to believe that Ian's music for Tomado Enamorado was composed in just 48 hours and without him ever seeing any footage or being on set. It totally fit the mood of the film. I couldn't be happier.”
