This is the second of the two additional pieces written to open the Requiem concert at St. Paul's Cathedral. Like it's predecessor, it has yet to be performed due to the cancellation of the concert.
Sicut Cervus is different that most of my choral works in that it is fairly bright. The piece is a cappella, entirely in Latin, and crosses through three keys, all major.
This was actually inspired by a piece of the same name I performed in high school with the Chamber Ensemble, written by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. Like my composition, it was a cappella, and is also written in a major key. I feel that this is due to the nature of the text.
While I wouldn't call it my favorite vocal composition, it does contain some themes that I'm quite fond of. |
