When The 48 Hour Film Project came around to San Diego again for 2006, I got on opportunity to work a second time with director Robin Rigby and much of the crew from Tomado Enamorado.

Robin's team drew the genre "mockumentary", and created this short film about wedding planners, with a certainly...unusual twist. I actually scored the film twice, which was also odd.

The first time was to match the two day deadline for the competition, so I had to crank out the four pieces used in the film pretty quickly. I got to write in a bunch of different styles, the music ranged from elegant string quartets, to soft jazz piano, to slow and sleazy rock, and lastly to a manic orchestral finale.

The second time, months after the competition was over, Robin asked if I'd be interested in adding new music cues to her extended "director's cut". The biggest difference about the rewrite was that I had an opportunity to watch the entire film and compose specifically to what was happening. While some of the old songs were kept, the majority of the film featured brand new music, and it fit much better in the end.

“After Ian's score for Tomado Enamorado I had no hesitation in working with him on Altarations. Once again, Ian delivered an excellent score in record time.”
